Pangée is proud to present Russell Banx (b. 1986) at The Armory Show, marking the artist's first solo at an international art fair. Banx’s practice is grounded in graphite drawing, which he approaches as a form of subconscious journaling. Through slow, repetitive mark-making, memory and emotion surface over time. The work thus exists between autobiography and the fiction of memory, where lived experience is reinterpreted through feeling. Banx’s surfaces of intricate graphite and sgraffito contain time, labor, and physical depth, asserting drawing as a self-sufficient medium.

The presentation continues Banx’s ongoing investigation of the emotional consequences of patriarchal masculinity. His work considers how emotional disconnection is learned and embodied, particularly in relation to what psychologists describe as normative male alexithymia: the difficulty many men experience in identifying and articulating emotion. In the artwork, adolescent male figures recur as archetypes rather than portraits, allowing Banx to explore vulnerability, intimacy, and the emotional constraints placed on masculinity. These figures inhabit quiet domestic interiors where stillness carries psychological weight and meaning accumulates through subtle shifts in gesture, texture, and space.
