—It all goes back to the ground.
Riches of the Earth, efflorescent, gilded, processed, overpriced.
It is all churned back into its beginnings.
When you mix all of the colours of the palette you get a murky brown.
When you combine all forms of luxury, just as well, a film of filth reveals itself.
[The golden calf, when milked long enough, eventually produces a sanguine liquid.]

Everything is rot, deep down, and lavish surfaces are made that way to mirror, and, like Narcissus, drawn you in, to drown—
Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Maison ignis fatuus (Stephanie E. Creaghan & Florence Vallières) is pleased to present La lanterne (2016-2017, a 30-minute video that considers the concept of interpersonal and institutional gaslighting) in its collaborative iteration with LVNEA (April Lea); the video work accompanied by a unique scent score conducted during the screening. The work will be shown twice, at 5:30 and 6:30 PM sharp, with the gallery open as of 5 PM to welcome guests.

Maison ignis fatuus is a video production house founded in 2016 by Creaghan and Vallières. LVNEA is a Montreal-based perfume-maker.

Stephanie E. Creaghan is a Montreal-based writer, performance and video artist who makes work about how violence inserts itself into different forms of communication, combining different pathways (audio/visual/physical/written) of language to reveal latent forms of manipulation and the pain they generate, in order to bring to light the undiscussed/repressed. She is the co-founder/director of CK2 Gallery, and was co-founder/director of Gallery LOCK (2013-2014). She has exhibited her work in Montreal, London (ONT), Chicago, and Prague, and has curated exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, New York, and Austin. She has made commissioned work for Le festival de la poésie de Montréal, and has performed at the Darling Foundry, 8Eleven Gallery and Projet Pangée. She has completed two international residencies (betOnest, Stolpe/Oder, Germany, 2017, and Cow House Studios, Wexford, Ireland, 2013), and has been the recipient of grants from the Canada Council of the Arts and from Concordia University. Her work has been published in LESTE Magazine, PANK Magazine, Permanent Sleep Press, and the Hypocrite Reader. She holds a BFA in Intermedia/Cyberarts (conferred with distinction) from Concordia University.

Florence Vallières is a Montreal-based artist who works with performance, video and installation. Her recent work tests the boundaries of narrative through the use of archetypal iconography and improvisation. Vallières holds a BFA from Concordia University and an MFA from the University of Ottawa, and her work has been shown in a number of group exhibitions and festivals.
