Russell Banx
Russell Banx practice is dedicated to graphite drawing, embracing the immediacy and preparatory connotations of the medium as an end in itself. His work unfolds within an introspective and sensitive realm, depicting male protagonists on the threshold of adulthood, captured in moments of reverie or quiet intimacy, in porous relation to their surroundings. Banx’s approach, both meticulous and intuitive, weaves together observation and reminiscence, drawing on personal memory and a contemplation of the fragility inherent to masculine identity.
Russell Banx lives and works in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. His work has recently been featured in several solo and group exhibitions, including at Pangée (Montreal), Winter Street Gallery (United States), and in Germany. Banx has participated in residencies at the Fondation d’art de La Napoule in Mandelieu-La Napoule (France, 2024) and at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada, 2023). His works are part of the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada. He is currently completing a Bachelor’s degree at Concordia University (Montreal, 2025) and is represented by Pangée.
